Functional Characcteristics:

Propylene glycol alginate (abbreviated as PGA), is derived from alginic acid which is extracted from natural seaweed. It is in the form of white or flaxen powder. Aqueous solution is viscous colloid. Compared with alginate, it has better resistance against acid and salts. And PGA is a good seaweed based food additive which has excellent performance.

 

Main Application:

In food industry, as thickening agent, stabilizer and emulsifier, PGA is used in yogurt and ice cream, the surface of the product is smooth without concavo-convex, with full-bodied mouth feel. As thickening and emulsifying agent, used in cheese and other milk products, the expansion and emulsifying effect is quite good with comfortable mouth feel. As foam stabilizer used in beer, its foam is pure white, fine and smooth, and will keep longer time. As the acid proof agent, emulsifying agent and dispersing agent used in all kinds of fruits juice beverage, the products will not precipitate or laminate, and the oil composition is stable. As the modifying agent, PGA can be used in flour, noodles and convenience food etc. Moreover, it can also be used in tomato sauce, meat sauce, soy sauce, emulsion flavor, syrup and sugar-coating etc.
